Dentist Nominated for Texas AGD Dentist of the Year Award
Austin (August 15, 2007) – Dr. William Purifoy, of Fort Worth, Texas, has received a nomination from the Fort Worth Academy of General Dentistry for the Texas Academy of General’s 2007 Dentist of the Year Award. It is considered the most prestigious honor a Texas dentist can earn.
Dr. Purifoy is one of only 17 dentists nominated for this year’s award. He and other nominees will be honored in special ceremonies at a gala on Friday, September 7, during Texas Academy of General Dentistry’s annual Lone Star Dental Conference in Austin. Each nominee will be recognized and will receive an engraved plaque. The gala will conclude with the announcement of the 2007 Texas Dentist of the Year and the presentation of the trophy to the winner.
The Texas Academy of General Dentistry is the second largest dental organization in Texas. Its nearly 2,500 members are dedicated to continuing dental education in general practice. To earn a nomination by a local dental society or Academy of General Dentistry component, a dentist must demonstrate dedication to the profession, service to the community, commitment to the principles of continuing education, and participation in other activities that indicate character and excellence.
Dr. Purifoy, a Periodontist in Fort Worth, graduated for the Baylor College of Dentistry in 1984. He is an active member in the American Academy of Periodontology serving on their State/Regional Matters Committee, a member of the Texas Dental Association, and was president for both the Southwest Society of Periodontists and Texas Society of Periodontists. Dr. Purifoy is currently serving a six-year term as a gubernatorial appointee to the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners. He is an annual host to visiting hygiene students for surgical observation and has received his Fellowship with both the International College of Dentists and the American College of Dentists.
Dr. Purifoy has also received numerous accolades from various local and statewide media such as being named a “Super Dentist” from 2004-2006 by Texas Monthly Magazine and he has been named one of Fort Worth Magazine’s “Top Doctors” from 2003-2006.
